Kirsten Tempel is a practitioner of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, licensed by the state of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut and nationally certified.  Her private practice is located in Soho, in the borough of Manhattan.  Her focus in on providing her patients with thorough, individualized, and comprehensive care, treating a variety of specific conditions and symptoms.  In addition, Traditional Chinese Medicine has a strong focus on prevention and is beneficial in the maintenance of good health despite the many demands and challenges of a busy lifestyle. More than just treating diseases, Kirsten promotes preventative health, wellness and patient empowerment. She is very committed to helping people feel their best and really enjoys her work.  

License and Education

Kirsten Tempel is a Diplomate in Oriental Medicine- Acupuncture & Chinese Herbal Medicine, certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). She is also certified by the Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (CCAOM) in Clean Needle Technique and licensed in Acupuncture by the State of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. 

Kirsten received her education in Traditional Oriental Medicine through Texas Health and Science University, American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and graduated from the renowned Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in New York City with a Master's degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine (MSTOM), a rigorous five-year program consisting of over 4,050 hours, both in the classroom and under clinical supervision as an intern. Part of her studies included acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, anatomy and physiology, nutrition, and Western disease diagnosis. Kirsten received her Bachelor's degree majoring in Human Services and Sociology and minoring in Africana Studies from The George Washington University. She is also a certified Diversity Professional and Advanced Practitioner through Cornell University's School of Labor and Industrial Relations. 

As part of her clinical education, Kirsten has worked with women of all ages to help regulate their menstrual cycle, relieve symptoms of PMS, balance moods, digestion and emotions, regulate and stabilize hormone levels, and support the fertility process as well as provide pregnancy support. 

She has also successfully treated a number of men and women for a variety of issues such as pain management, anxiety, depression, stress reduction, digestive conditions, allergies, adverse reactions to radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy, insomnia, hypertension and many other internal and external pathologies. Additionally, Kirsten practiced at the New York University Hospital for Joint Diseases, Initiative for Women with Disabilities, a program providing medical care to women who suffer from physical disabilities and chronic illnesses such as multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. 

Current Practice

Kirsten strongly supports the integration of eastern and western medicine and is committed to helping people reach their utmost potential in physical, mental and spiritual health, respecting each individual as a unique being.  Kirsten is a general practitioner treating women, men and children with a wide range of conditions utilizing a variety of healing tools including acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, eastern nutrition and lifestyle counseling in her practice.  While Kirsten treats a wide variety of pathologies she has a particular interest in weight loss, autoimmune diseases, digestive issues, anxiety and depression, allergies and supporting cancer care.  


Kirsten was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Her diverse background and experiences led her to an interest in the human condition.  It was while working for a renowned Acupuncturist in New York that she became interested in medicine.  She observed people's struggles with illness and pain and as a result of Chinese Medicine achieve individual health, happiness, balance and well being.  This experience triggered her own journey of helping people to feel their best, emotionally, physically and  spiritually.    In addition to her strong commitment to health and wellness, Kirsten enjoys ashtanga vinyasa yoga, gardening, cooking, and dancing.
